Frequently Asked Questions

Design & Manufacturing

Do you design and build your own products, or are they white-labeled?

Every Dirtbox product is 100% designed, tested, and assembled in-house— no white labeling, no outsourcing. We own our own fabrication shop, which means every cut, weld, and joint is built to our exact standards.
We use 220+ series extruded aluminum that’s rust-resistant, lightweight, and incredibly strong. If you ever get to touch and feel it, you’ll understand why many say we build the strongest canopy campers, truck toppers, and flatbed systems in the U.S.

What makes your canopy campers different from others?

Ours are true modular systems, built from 220+ series extruded aluminum that’s rust-resistant, lightweight, and incredibly strong. Every section is designed for real-world function — you can reconfigure, expand, and repair easily.

Many customers who’ve switched from other brands say the biggest difference is that our systems actually make sense— everything connects and functions as one living ecosystem, not just random parts bolted on.

We’ve built one of the largest accessory ecosystems in the overland world — all fully integrated within our modular platform, yet still compatible with other canopy campers, toppers, and flatbeds.

Where are your products made?

All Dirtbox systems areborn in Colorado— designed, tested, and assembled right here. We use high-grade extruded aluminum and Stormguard tent fabric, with globally sourced materials but fully built under our own standards.

What’s the difference between your Canopy Camper and Topper?

Canopy Camper: A full pop-up tent system for extended overland use — sleep, cook, and store in one structure.

Topper: Same modular frame and storage design, without the tent — ideal for lighter builds or use with your own rooftop tent.

INSTALLATION & FITMENT

What should I do before coming for installation?

Please remove everything from your truck bed before installation — this gives our team room to work efficiently and safely.

If you already have a drawer system or built-in accessories that can’t be removed, please send us a few photos ahead of time so we can make sure our mounting points aren’t blocked and plan accordingly.

We’ve worked with government fleets and fire department trucks before — even if your vehicle has special gear or wiring, we can adapt as long as we know in advance.

Can I install it myself or use a local shop?

You can, but we highly recommend installation at Dirtbox HQ (Denver) or through one of our authorized dealers/installers.
If you choose a non-network shop, Dirtbox cannot be responsible for any fitment errors or damage — the installer must take full responsibility. We’ll still support you with diagrams and remote guidance.

How long does installation take?

For most canopy campers and truck toppers, installation time depends on your truck model and configuration.

  • Canopy Camper: Around 3–4 hours for the main structure, plus 1–2 additional hours for wiring your third brake light and marker lights.
For optional add-on lighting — like front lights on the canopy lip or side shooters mounted on the T-tracks to light up your campsite or trail at night — installation time will vary depending on your setup.
  • Rearview Camera (Add-On): If you’re installing an aftermarket rearview or backup camera behind the camper or topper, plan for an additional 2–3 hours depending on your camera kit and routing preferences.
  • Drawer Systems: Half-drawer installs typically take 3–4 hours, while full-drawer setups need around 5–6 hours.
  • Flatbeds: Installation time varies since every flatbed build is highly customizable — expect roughly a full day or more, depending on options and accessories.
If you ship your truck to our Denver location, plan for your vehicle to stay here for about one week for installation and fitment.
For additional customization (for example, LINE-X coating or third-party accessories), please allow an extra week.

Can I become a Dirtbox dealer or installer?

We’re expanding our dealer network worldwide. If you run a shop with strong installation or fabrication experience — and share our standards for craftsmanship and integrity — contact us. We’ll send you our dealer application packet, margin structure, and product information.
Dealers also receive marketing support, demo-unit discounts, and optional Shopify Collective integration to simplify online sales.

What is the process for getting installed at a dealer or installer?

After placing your order (either directly with us or through a dealer/installer), a Dirtbox representative will contact you to coordinate your installation date and confirm availability.
We’ll then arrange shipment of your unit directly to your chosen shop close to the scheduled install date and help confirm that everything is ready for a proper setup.

Community & Support

How can I join the Dirtbox community?

Join the Dirtbox Overland Community on Facebook to share builds, ask questions, and connect with other owners:
👉facebook.com/share/g/1CFfqQNmV6

Even if you don’t yet own a Dirtbox system, you’re very welcome to join— it’s a great place to learn from real users, get inspiration, and see how our modular systems work in real-world setups.

Do you offer shop tours or factory visits?

Yes — by appointment. You’re welcome to visit our Denver HQ to see how every canopy camper, topper, and flatbed system is designed, fabricated, and tested. It’s also a great opportunity to meet the team behind the builds and check out current projects in progress.

Do you have a YouTube channel or setup guides?

Yes — check out our Dirtbox Overland YouTube channel for build walkthroughs, event coverage, and behind-the-scenes looks at how we design and test our systems. It’s a great resource for owners and new customers alike.

Where can I see a Dirtbox in person?

The best place to see our products in person is at our Denver showroom:
6066 E 49th Dr, Commerce City, Colorado 80022.

You can also visit us at major events and expos across the country — we constantly post our upcoming show schedule on social media.

Another great option is to connect with one of our existing Dirtbox owners who’s willing to showcase their setup. Please refer to our

on Facebook to ask if any local owners would be open to a quick walkthrough or showcase.

Shipping & Logistics

How is shipping cost calculated?

Freight cost depends on location, product size, and delivery type (residential, commercial, or liftgate). We always confirm exact shipping cost before final invoicing.

Can I pick up my build in person?

Definitely — many customers prefer to pick up at our Denver HQ

Can I arrange my own freight pickup?

Yes. You can send your preferred freight carrier, and we’ll coordinate pickup and loading at our facility.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes — Dirtbox ships worldwide. All freight leaves from our Denver HQ, and we can provide export-ready packaging and documents for overseas shipments.

For larger freight orders (such as canopy campers, toppers, or flatbeds), we typically work with our customs broker to help prepare export paperwork — but if you’re located outside the U.S. (for example, in Canada), you’ll also need to have your own customs broker to handle clearance and any applicable duties or taxes once the shipment arrives.

Your broker will need to share their contact information and coordinate with our team to complete all required paperwork before the shipment departs.
They’ll usually require a customs invoice showing the unit cost and country of origin (USA in this case).
Please note — the freight company cannot ship until customs documentation and broker details are fully confirmed.

For smaller items, we can ship worldwide directly, including our full range of accessories such as the 270° awning, shower awning, side molle boxes, and other modular add-ons.

What happens if my order is damaged during shipping?

Every Dirtbox shipment is insured through our freight carrier. Please inspect your delivery immediately upon arrival.
If you notice any damage to the crate or product, write a clear note on the delivery receipt before you sign (for example, “Crate corner crushed; panel scratched”).
Then take clear photos of the crate and product and email them to vivi@dirtboxoverland.com so we can help file a claim and send any replacement parts as quickly as possible.
Please note — if you sign the receipt as “no damage” and later request repairs, we unfortunately cannot file a shipping claim or cover replacement costs through freight insurance.

Product Compatibility & Maintenance

Can I move my Dirtbox system to a new truck?

In most cases, yes — as long as the new truck is in the same size category.
Our modular mounting system allows your canopy camper or topper to be re-fitted between trucks of similar dimensions (for example, Tacoma to Colorado, or F-150 to Tundra).
However, you cannot transfer a midsize system to a full-size truck, as each is engineered around different bed widths and mounting geometry.
Also, if you’re switching to a different model year of the same truck, you may need updated mounting brackets or hardware— which can be ordered directly from us to ensure proper fitment.
Before transferring your setup, send us yournew truck’s make, model, and year, and we’ll confirm compatibility or provide the correct bracket kit.

Are Dirtbox accessories compatible with other canopy brands?

Most Dirtbox accessories can be used with other canopy campers or toppers, since they’re designed around universal mounting dimensions.
That includes accessories like our 90° Swing-Out Bracket,270° Awning (available for both passenger and driver sides),Shower Awning Enclosure, and Chunk Quick Release Brackets— plus many more modular add-ons that can be mounted independently or paired with other canopy systems.
Many of our270° awnings and shower awnings can also be installed on SUV roof racks, making them a great fit for both truck and SUV builds.
That said, pairing them with a full Dirtbox system provides the cleanest fit, strongest structural alignment, and seamless ecosystem integration, especially if you plan to expand your setup later.

Can I add new accessories or power upgrades later?

Absolutely. All our systems include built-in T-tracks and L-tracks, giving you endless mounting flexibility both inside and outside your setup.

The roof-mounted L-track system is perfect for adding solar panels, traction boards, kayak mounts, bicycle mounts, and many other rooftop accessories.

Inside the camper or topper, our T-tracks run 360° around the structure, letting you mount diesel heater brackets, side-hanging water tanks, hooks for gear or toys, and practically anything else you need to organize your setup.

We designed Dirtbox to be a true modular ecosystem— built to grow, upgrade, and adapt as your adventures evolve.

What roof racks are compatible with the Dirtbox Canopy Camper?

It really depends on what vehicle you have. Our canopy campers are designed with universal mounting dimensions, so most half-length roof racks work seamlessly.
For example, on newer-generation Ford F-150s, both the Sherpa half rack and the Front Runner half rack fit perfectly and allow you to mount gear, solar panels, or crossbars above the cab.

If you’re running a different vehicle, feel free to send us your truck make, model, and year, and we’ll help confirm the best rack options for your setup.

If I want to carry a mountain bike, what are my options with a Dirtbox Canopy Camper or Gull-Wing Topper?

You’ve got several good options depending on how you like to travel and load your rig.
For example, you can fit an XL mountain bike with both tires on inside a Ford Ranger bed running a Dirtbox Overland Canopy Camper or Topper— the interior height and 360° T-track mounting system make it easy to secure safely.

We also offer a side-mounted bike option, shown in our photos, which works great for quick access and saves interior space. However, if you often drive tight trails or wooded routes, you might want to add a soft cover or stick with a hitch rack to prevent side clearance issues.

If you’re unsure which setup works best for your truck, send us a few photos of your build and we’ll help you find the cleanest fit.

Can you build for long-bed or flatbed conversions?

Yes — we can adapt to custom flatbed builds and work-truck setups.
We can also custom-build configurations with a front garage area or enclosed storage compartments designed for tools, spare tires, or utility gear.

Approval and terms depend on your FICO credit score and the individual provider’s review process.
You’ll see available payment plan options during checkout before confirming your order.
